Great tips, John, although I'd recommend using the likes of Digg and Stumbleupon judiciously for bookmarking your own sites.

Both these apps use algorithms to check on what you're submitting – too much of your own stuff and they'll put a block on your access.

(Although Stumbleupon is pretty good at relaxing this "ban" after you share quality reviews of other sites).

Hi John

thanks for this very useful list which is extremely timely :-)

I've just finished the new version of our marketing site and will be starting to offer it up tomorrow

John,

Great free summation of a lot of the material people are paying to get. Good checklist format too.

Traffic seems to be a dynamic that compounds as a result of multiple approaches like the best practices you included here, and not so much the "silver bullet" that does it all at once.

Thanks,

Shane

affiliate reviews @ 1:05 am

Hi John,

I think that's a brilliant post you made for building traffic on the blog. I have a similar sort of blog through which I wish to provide useful affiliate related information to people, especially to the affiliate beginners but, I was facing difficulty reaching out to the masses. However, with the tips you have provided, I think I can aim for greater viewing so that I can help as many people as I can through my blog.

John,

Great post, and straight and to the point, just the way I like it. I knew most of these but was able to pick up a few.

John,
This list is a great list of all basics one has to do. Great you put them together. Sometimes, we forget about doing it, sometimes we don't know, or didn't think it could be done.
Thank you.

Blog carnivals can bring huge traffic to your blog. I was ignorant about blog carnivals until now. The concept is pretty simple. I have also written a post about it here – http://prochow.blogspot.com/2008/12/get-killer-traffic-with-blog-carnivals.html

Nice synopsis, John. Traffic is the big stumbling block that "guru's" leave out of their sales pitches. No traffic = No Money! Simple as that.

Blog Carnivals work really well. I have noticed a big uptick in traffic using them.

I, too, have a blog that gives lots of free tips on driving traffic http://on-line-tribune-you-can-blog-too.blogspot.com but I have been looking into PPC lately. Seems like less work than always working the free sources. We'll see.
