Don't Fall Into The Perpetual Special Offer Trap

I'll keep this short and sweet.

This is a warning to all those people who keep offering "special deals," eventually those deals become the norm are no longer special.
All you're doing is setting up your customers to expect your next "special deal".

Eventually, your prospects will stop buying your products at the standard price. Is that a smart move during an economic slow down? You're setting yourself up to either take a pay cut or to have to work even harder to maintain your income.

Have you seen even more of the "perpetual special offer" promotions creep into your inbox lately?

Have you been tempted to overdo the special offer to increase the number of units sold?

Hi John,

I think we're seeing more and more "special offers" and deals because some people are starting to see lower conversion rates from their lists, although I suspect it's just as often because they're not building their relationship with their subscribers, as anything to do with the "credit crunch"…

a couple of times each month I will offer my subscribers a new PLR product (the best I find each month) at a special discount for 24-48 hours only, before I put the price up (usually double).

I've found this works well as people quickly come to realize that I WILL put the price up after a day or two, so it is a REAL discount offer that they need to be quick to grab.

That's a nice approach. By making your special offer time limited and sticking to your conditions, you're making it a true special offer.

Credibility and integrity are critically important in times of economic pressure.

This is a great post! Developing know-like-trust with your readers or your list really makes the perpetual "special offer" redundant.

I have SOS (shiny object syndrome) so I am often intrigued by the "special offer" but when I see the 10th one in a week from the same marketer that KLT Factor gets lost. (and the unsubscibe button gets found!)

Keeping a special offer "special" is just the right way to do things!
