Whatever You Do Today.. Do Something!
On Monday I met with a new client for the first time. She is opening a new shop in September and asked me to help with establishing an online presence.
The project will involve providing her with an ecommerce site with a shopping cart which will integrate with her shop system.
We discussed the importance of marketing and promotion and the various strategies and tactics that we can use to build links and traffic over the long term.
Between now and the official opening of her shop in September we have lots of time to build content on her site to provide the type of information that will attract her target audience. We can write and broadcast articles and press releases for links and traffic. We can promote the site through forum marketing and by posting useful comments on relevant blogs.
Having time before the official launch is a great benefit, the key is to make sure that every day we take action.
Since Monday, I have set up a blog on the website using Semiologic, it has been optimised for the search engines, I've added an extended ping list and I've also added a couple of extra plugins including a social bookmarking auto poster.
I've also set up a "feeder site" also based on the Semiologic theme for Wordpress. This will be just one of many sites that will help to feed both links and traffic to the main site. The network will embrace squidoo lenses, hub pages, blogger blogs, Wetpaint wikis and other sites each focused on one the primary keywords that we are targetting.
Our objective is, over time, to ensure that her main site is seen as an authority site.. the go to online store for her product range.
What will you do today which will have a long term impact on the success of your online business?
